FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we make a reservation or call ahead seating?

We do not accept reservations or call ahead seating. We are very small, as we only have 8 tables and 4 counter seats in our building. We work quickly to turn the tables over. This fast pace gives everyone a chance to dine with us.

Do you cater?

We do not offer catering services at this time. However, we do offer pre-orders of our homemade giant muffins, bagels, danish, cinnamon rolls, and scones. You can order by the half dozen or dozen at a discounted price when pre-ordered in advance. We ask that you give us at least 2 days notice for muffin and bagel orders. Please provide at least 5 days notice for danish, cinnamon rolls, and scones. *Orders may be declined based on inventory status.*

Can you host our event at your restaurant?

Please send us an e-mail at maesplacenk@outlook.com to further discuss your event.

Can you accommodate a party of 6+?

We can usually accommodate larger parties on week days. It is tougher for us to accommodate parties 6 persons or larger on the weekends. IF we can, you most likely will be split up at multiple tables, may have different wait staff, and you may not get seated and/or fed at the same time. Again, we are very small, and our largest table size can fit 4 persons comfortably.

Why am I being charged a “Take-Out fee”?

The cost of take-out containers, utensils, condiments, napkins, bags etc. has risen dramatically (60-75%) what they used to be. We issue a 1% takeout fee on all takeout orders to help offset the cost of the containers, bags, utensils, napkins, cups, lids, condiments, etc.

Why am I being charged a “Gratuity fee”?

A 15% gratuity fee will be added to your bill for any parties of 6 persons or more. This also applies to any take-out order over $50. This fee goes straight to and supports our hardworking and dedicated staff. Our loyal front of house staff work very hard to ensure you have a great experience at Mae’s Place. They are trained to provide great service to you while you dine-in or take-out at our establishment. Most of our staff have been with us the whole nine years we’ve been open!

Take-out Orders: I am missing something, there is a problem or I think I have the wrong order.

We take great care in preparing your takeout order. However, once it leaves the premises, we are unable to resolve any issues that may occur. Please review your order for accuracy before departure; especially on busy weekends! We appreciate your business!

If I place a take-out order, and something came up, and I can’t pick it up, what should I do?

Please give the restaurant a quick call if you can’t pick up your order. When you place an order, you’re given a time when your food will be ready for pick-up. If it’s a genuine emergency, we completely understand. Lately, though, we’ve noticed a lot of orders being placed, prepared, and then never picked up, with no call back or response when we try to reach you. (Just a reminder: the service industry is protected by law, and refusing to pay after receiving services at a restaurant is considered shoplifting, legally defined as theft of service.)

Why can’t I sit at a table until my whole party has arrived?

We’re a tiny spot with just 8 tables and 4 counter seats, so we have a bit of a “method to our madness” to keep things moving smoothly. If someone in your party runs late due to traffic or other delays, it can end up holding a table longer than necessary. We don’t mean to sound rude—we want you to enjoy your time here—but while you’re waiting, we might have been able to seat, serve, and turn over the table. Losing that opportunity could ultimately hurt our business.

Can I bring my dog into Mae’s Place?

We fully support and allow ADA trained SERVICE dogs into our restaurant. We do not allow your pet, therapy, emotional support, etc. dog into our building. We are too small, and would never want to make any of our other customers feel uncomfortable- especially people with allergies or a fear of dogs. According to R.I. General Laws, it is illegal for us to allow animals of any kind into our establishment for sanitary purposes, UNLESS they are an ADA trained identifiable service dog performing a service for the customer, and located quietly under the table while the customer dines with us. During the summer we offer outdoor seating, and we allow you to bring your dog with you while dining outside. If your dog is not well trained, is lunging at other customers, or jumping on the table, etc., we will unfortunately have to ask you and the dog to leave.
